{"id":205,"date":"2012-07-21T15:45:56","date_gmt":"2012-07-21T15:45:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.itcrumbs.com\/?p=205"},"modified":"2019-02-07T04:40:12","modified_gmt":"2019-02-07T04:40:12","slug":"repair-user-permissions-in-mac-os-x-lion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.itcrumbs.com\/?p=205","title":{"rendered":"Repair User Permissions in Mac OS X Lion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"http:\/\/osxdaily.com\/2011\/11\/15\/repair-user-permissions-in-mac-os-x-lion\/\" href=\"http:\/\/osxdaily.com\/2011\/11\/15\/repair-user-permissions-in-mac-os-x-lion\/\">http:\/\/osxdaily.com\/2011\/11\/15\/repair-user-permissions-in-mac-os-x-lion\/<\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Repairing User Permissions in OS X Lion<\/h4>\n<p>You\u2019ll need to reboot to perform this, and then use the same <a href=\"http:\/\/osxdaily.com\/2011\/08\/24\/reset-mac-os-x-10-7-lion-password\/\">resetpassword<\/a> utility that is used to change passwords in <a href=\"http:\/\/osxdaily.com\/2011\/11\/15\/repair-user-permissions-in-mac-os-x-lion\/#\">Lion<\/a>, but instead choosing a hidden option.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>When you use the Disk Utility app and Repair Permissions \u2014 it doesn\u2019t actually repair the permission settings on folders and files in your Home folder where <a href=\"http:\/\/osxdaily.com\/2011\/11\/15\/repair-user-permissions-in-mac-os-x-lion\/#\">your documents<\/a> and personal applications reside.<\/p>\n<p>In Lion, there is an additional Repair Permissions application utility hidden away. This tool is located inside boot Repair Utilities. Here\u2019s how to access it.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Restart Lion and hold down the Command and R keys. <\/li>\n<li>You will boot into the Repair Utilities screen. On top, in the <a href=\"http:\/\/osxdaily.com\/2011\/11\/15\/repair-user-permissions-in-mac-os-x-lion\/#\">Menu Bar<\/a> click the Utilities item then select Terminal. <\/li>\n<li>In the Terminal window, type resetpassword and hit Return. <\/li>\n<li>The Password reset utility launches, but <em>you\u2019re not going to reset the password<\/em>. Instead, click on the icon for your Mac\u2019s hard drive at the top. From the drop-down below it, select the <a href=\"http:\/\/osxdaily.com\/2011\/11\/15\/repair-user-permissions-in-mac-os-x-lion\/#\">user account<\/a> where you are having issues. <\/li>\n<li>At the bottom of the window, you\u2019ll see an area labeled \u2018Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs\u2019. <a href=\"http:\/\/osxdaily.com\/2011\/11\/15\/repair-user-permissions-in-mac-os-x-lion\/#\">Click<\/a> the Reset button there.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The reset process takes a couple of minutes. When it\u2019s done, quit the programs you\u2019ve opened and restart your Mac.
