What they don\u2019t tell you is that when you try to upgrade the controller, you can\u2019t, because the service is still running. Here are the instructions for that:  <\/p>\n<p>1. Back up your config from <strong>Settings &gt; Maintenance &gt; Download Backup<\/strong>.&nbsp; If that doesn\u2019t work from remote access, try it from a browser on the LAN.&nbsp; If _that_ doesn\u2019t work, go to <strong>Settings &gt; Auto Backup<\/strong> and download the most recent backup.  <\/p>\n<p>2. On the server running the controller, open an administrative Command Prompt.&nbsp; Stop the UniFi Java service:  <\/p>\n<p><code>cd \"%UserProfile%\\Ubiquiti UniFi\\\"<br \/>java -jar lib\\ace.jar stopsvc<\/code>  <\/p>\n<p>3. Overinstall the new controller (run UniFi-installer.exe).&nbsp; On the last page of the install wizard, check \u201cStart UniFi Controller after installation\u201d.  <\/p>\n<p>4. In the small window that opens, wait until it says \u201cUniFi Controller (x.xx.xx) started\u201d:  <\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.itcrumbs.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"1\" style=\"border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px\" border=\"0\" alt=\"1\" src=\"http:\/\/www.itcrumbs.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/1_thumb.png\" width=\"448\" height=\"287\"><\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Close the window (do not launch browser).  <\/p>\n<p>5.
